The Ethel Milliken School Community Council Playground Project’s “Git Down’Hoedown” successfully ran eight Rebecca Safety Stations and ‘badged’ between 175-200 kids. Filled with riddles, activities and safety trivia, these “varmints lookin’ fer fun” learned about safe practices while enjoying the petting zoo, a Velcro wall and other various activities. The Rebecca Trail is a safety scavenger hunt that teaches children and youth that they have the ability to protect their own families through injury prevention. Rebecca Activities and Riddles were incorporated into the Ethel Milliken BBQ activities, and at the end of the hunt each child received a Rebecca activity sheet and Safe Saskatchewan info kit to take home to their families. “There was so much enthusiasm from the students who participated, and the students who volunteered at each station on the Trail. We had grade eight boys being blindfolded to play ‘Pin the Helmet on the cyclist’ and little three year olds racing to identify danger signs,” comments Heather Becker, volunteer co-chair of this event. “It was a great addition to our annual event to have a balance of fun with learning.” For more information on Safe Saskatchewan’s Rebecca Trail, please contact Safe Saskatchewan at info@safesask.com.
