Safe Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan Emergency Medical Services Association Partner to Reach Kids with Injury Prevention Message

Safe Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Emergency Medical Services Association (SEMSA) have partnered in the development and execution of an injury prevention activity that will engage Saskatchewan children, youth and families. The Safe Saskatchewan-SEMSA Rebecca Trail is an interactive scavenger hunt-style game that leads participants through a series of safety stations, creating educational opportunities for families to talk about safety and injury prevention with paramedics.

This afternoon, over 70 Saskatchewan leaders declared their commitment to the health and safety of their employees and communities by adding their name to the already impressive list of 200 business, government and community leaders who signed the Charter in 2010. Sponsored by Safe Saskatchewan, the Health & Safety Leadership Charter is the first and only one of its kind in Saskatchewan.

Mission: Zero Live injury-free aims to unite all Saskatchewan Injury Prevention Partners

Saskatoon, Friday, April 23, 2010: Saskatchewan residents have been given a new call to action. “Mission Zero: Live injury free” will build on WorkSafe Saskatchewan’s recognized Mission: Zero campaign in the workplace. Mission: Zero Live injury-free. aims to move the message from the workplace to the community and to people’s homes.

Saskatoon, Monday, February 23, 2009      Safety Lessons Learned at The Saskatoon Family Expo

A carnival smell of popcorn and cotton candy was in the air as the Saskatoon Family Expo kicked off this weekend. While more than 5,500 people walked through the doors at Prairieland Park in Saskatoon, 500 kids walked through Safe Saskatchewan’s Rebecca Trail. The interactive safety scavenger hunt game included jumping out an emergency phone number, finding the biker making a right-hand turn signal, and locating the skateboarder who was wearing the correct safety equipment.

Various top Regina and area business and safety leaders were in attendance at the 2009 Safe Saskatchewan Business Leaders' Forum on Injury Prevention. Safe Saskatchewan and its founding partners are excited to be a part of the 8th Annual SGI/Roughriders Play It Safe Day. Last year, the Kids Check Passport developed by Safe Saskatchewan reached over 1,500 kids and their families. Safe Saskatchewan’s mission of working together to eliminate unintentional injuries in Saskatchewan has been reinforced with the release of the “Saskatchewan Comprehensive Injury Surveillance Report, 1995-2005”. Released in July of 2008 by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health, this report focused on facilitating the development of evidence-based injury prevention policies and programs.

Safe Saskatchewan has just completed a number of research projects in an effort to
understand why Saskatchewan’s injury rate is one of Canada’s highest. Qualitative and quantitative research was undertaken from November 2006 to March 2007 to gather feedback from over 2,000 Saskatchewan residents across the province.

From March 14-20, 2007, organizations across Canada will be running initiatives related to agricultural safety during Canadian Agricultural Safety Week. This year’s theme “Protect Your Moving Parts!” has been embraced by Safe Saskatchewan. The impact of unintentional injuries in Saskatchewan, including those related to farm and ranch injuries, has been estimated at $1 billion a year.
